This painting by another artist
in my wife’s studio,
the painting she found years ago
at a garage sale
in our old neighborhood where we
lived after we were first married,
I wonder if the artist knows,
if she ever speculates
that I’ve walked the brush strokes
of her foamy shores
and have sat for hours in the cove
she fashioned patiently,
just for me.
And for weeks now I’ve listened
to her waves and never tire
of the salty breeze
off her aqua-blue water.
And all the calls from corporate world
can not detract me from her horizon,
where she has painted
water meeting sky meeting water.

Oh…I just love this. Just as the painting takes you with it, you take us along on your journey. Your poetry gets better and better. Keep on writing!
Hi Lisa, and thanks for the encouraging words! Big Sur – haven’t been there in-person…yet…best, Darren
If the artist did know she would be positively beaming. I can’t imagine how wonderful it would feel knowing somebody connects so deeply with a painting you’ve created. It must be amazing.
Once again, beautiful work, Darren.
Thank you Calliope’s Pen. I think we’ve had this painting now well over ten years. And it is beaming with naivete, idealism and the artist’s confidence…and I love that. I think, or hope, artists should trust that the work they put out into the world, that they themselves might lose track of, remains. And what remains brings joy to those who’ve found it and have hung it on a wall in their home. Positive, productive, life-affirming activity. And the same can be said for words too (like your’s!)…best, Darren
you painted this painting well, it is now on a wall in my mind.
Hi Cindy…and you have (already) an amazing mind! hope this note finds you well. Best, Darren
i agree with all above me, well painted..
THanks you for reading…and your kind note. Have a great weekend! Best, Darren (don’t know what happened to my blog photo of Lake Michigan – it’s red. I’ll have to fix that today!)
This must be exactly what every artist hopes for – understanding as beautiful as the art itself. Very cool, Darren. (And I have been to Big Sir!)
Always a pleasure to have you read and comment on my work Judy! One day too, I will get to Big Sur and doubt it will let me down from the picture I have built in my mind and which hangs in my wife’s studio. See ya over at Zebra Sounds! best, Darren
